customs excise tax?

i got a package from australia today, i’ve been waiting for it in exactly 2 weeks, i thought i would be very happy on the day it’s arrived… but all i got today is only a letter from post office…it says my package has arrived and i have to pick it up soon on working days at 9 am to 2 pm, first thing in my mind…dammit i will be at work! then i called my workmate, he said i can go on lunch time, he will take care of it… okay,,i thought everything was good…not until…….. i read that letter carefully, and i found something shocking…

okay here we go,,,it’s written on their letter that… i have to pay taxes, with details as below:

• 15% excise tax 180,411 IDR
• 10% value added tax 138,315 IDR
• 7.5% profit tax 103,736 IDR
• 5000 IDR repackage (what?? i must pay repackage after they scattered my package?)

total 427,462 IDR?? that’s total bullshit!! riddiculous i have to pay for a gift??!! i called the sender of my package (my boyfriend of coz ) straight away..and he told me to find out everything about receiving a package from overseas, how much should i pay, because he already paid for everything in australia when he sent it including taxes..and that package was already tagged as a gift.. i google it and found out that gift package is free tax.. sooo i dont know where those taxes are going to??!

they all said, i have to argue first, ask them where they find that amount from, stick with ‘im not gonna pay it!’..just say it’s a gift, and tagged package is supposed to be tax free..and all costs are already paid by sender… hmm.. okay, i’ll try to do that on wednesday,,the day i’ll go to post office to pick it up..but if it’s not working i’ll pay that amount anyway…. can hardly wait to open my present from my loving nemo :-*
